Primary Speech Once per week I conduct a group Speech/language lesson in the Early Childhood Classroom (students age3-5 with special needs). Some of goals that many children have on their IEP in the area of Speech/Language is to be able to sequence activities of daily living, and retell a story using grammatically correct sentences and new vocabulary. In Early Childhood, the classroom cycles through various themes throughout the school year. For example, for two weeks the teacher may be talking about "The Sea", with the following two weeks focused on "The Farm", I always try to work my lessons around that week's theme. As part of the 45 minute Speech lesson, we create a snack that somehow relates to the theme also. Articulation Book Student will identify and photograph items that start with the targeted sound/phoneme. Student will use the designed book for practice outside of the speech therapy setting. Student will use the digital camera to photograph items in his environment that begin with the targeted sound/phoneme. Grandparents Day In this project, the students take a picture of another child with their grandparents on Grandparents Day here at school, after a demonstration on camera use. They should stand in front of a "My Grandparents Are Special" sign. Each child can help import his photos into iPhoto and create a Grandparent story, by adding text to the picture. The child would create a 2-3 sentence story about his grandparent, and with the help of the teacher or an aide, type it into the computer. The stories can be... Download: [48 KB PDF]
One-Hundredth Day of School On February 8th, the students will be taking part in seven different activities for the one-hundredth day of school. Students will use iPhoto to create pictures of their One Hundred Day activities. Working in pairs, the students will take pictures of each other during the various activities. The students will then import their photos into iPhoto and create a book with text identifying the activities and the student(s) involved.

A Walking Trip of Color In this project, students are first reminded about basic camera care and then each student has a chance to Òpull a color from a hatÓ. Reading Literacy: Book of the Month In this project, students use the Canon Power Shot A75 camera (or any digital camera) to take a picture of their reading buddy with their book of the month. First we will kick off our "Reading is a Picnic" program by having the students bring in their favorite book that they read this month. Feeling Good About Myself The teacher discusses goals and strengths first with the group and then with individual students. Feeling proud, having good feelings about oneself, and having goals areconcepts which will be discussed and demonstrated by the instructor.. FUN TIME GRAPHING This is a fun activity which will show what recess activity the children enjoy most while reinforcing the concept of graphing and reading at the same time. Getting to Know Your Classmates The beginning of the school year can be a time of anxiety for many students. They are unsure of who will be in their class and what their teacher will be like.
